E-com Desk, stage 1: which buttons go on the GSTR-1 Summary?

After the month's files are on the board, Next opens a summary of the month's GSTR-1 return. Here is GSTWise's version of that screen, and three ways we can build ours.

All figures are made-up examples for "Sample Traders", not a real customer.

✓ Decided: list all 13 sections, as GSTWise does ✓ Decided: Next works once any file is added ✓ Decided: Amazon, Flipkart and Meesho only

1. GSTWise's summary screen

Each orange number marks one button or control. The list below says what it does and what we suggest.

1

Reports

Opens a table of the whole year, month by month, with quarter totals.

Stage 5
2

Monthly / Quarterly

Switches between monthly and quarterly filers.

3

Year and month boxes

Choose another month. Our page header already has a month button that does this.

Leave out
4

Upload Data File

Goes back to the month's files to add or remove one.

Keep (as "Back to files")
5

Export As

Downloads the GSTR-1 JSON and the Miracle file.

Stage 3
6

Edit (on every row)

Opens that section's list, where GSTWise lets you change, delete or move entries.

Keep only to look, not edit
7

Amendments

Corrects returns of earlier months that were already filed.

2. Three ways to build our summary

To fit, these pictures show only the count and taxable columns; the real page also shows IGST, CGST, SGST, cess and invoice totals.

In each option, the second picture shows what happens when the user presses Enter on the row "7 – B2C (Others)".

Option A · Look only

Recommended

Rows open a section's list to look at it; nothing on these pages changes a figure.

Step 1. User presses Next on the file board → the summary opens with the first row selected.

Step 2. User presses Enter on "B2C (Others)" → its states open. Nothing here can be changed.

Good
  • Users can check every number, but they cannot break the return.
  • Clean screen; works with Enter and arrow keys like the rest of the app.
  • Editing can be added later, one button at a time, when you decide in stage 2.
Bad
  • A wrong figure must be fixed in the platform file or in Miracle, then the file is added again.

Option B · Same as GSTWise

Copy every control on GSTWise's screen, including Edit on every row and Amendments.

Step 1. User presses Next → the summary opens with month boxes, Upload Data File, Amendments and 13 Edit buttons.

Step 2. User presses Enter on "B2C (Others)" → its states open, each with an Edit button that changes the amounts.

Good
  • Users who know GSTWise find everything where they expect it.
  • Small mistakes can be fixed on the spot.
Bad
  • A changed amount no longer matches the platform file or Miracle, and nothing warns about it. ✕
  • Two month pickers on one screen (header and page).
  • Amendments is a separate job that our files do not support.

Option C · Totals only

Show the 13 totals and nothing else; rows do not open.

Step 1. User presses Next → the same summary as Option A.

Step 2. User presses Enter on "B2C (Others)" → nothing opens.

B2C (Others)
✕No list to open.
The user cannot see which states or platforms make up ₹2,61,400.00.

Not possible

Good
  • Simplest and fastest to build.
  • No way to change anything.
Bad
  • A total that looks wrong cannot be checked in the app. ✕
  • Stage 2 (the section pages) would have nowhere to start from.

Recommendation: Option A

Keep Back to files and let rows open their section to look only. Leave out Monthly/Quarterly, the second month picker and Amendments. Reports and Export come in their own stages, where you choose their buttons too.

Which buttons inside each section page may change anything (for example GSTWise's "Convert to B2C" on a B2B invoice) is your choice in stage 2.
